Uruvela Forest is a sacred site in Bodh Gaya, India, where Siddhartha Gautama, later known as the Buddha, achieved enlightenment. According to Buddhist tradition, Uruvela Forest was the site where the Buddha sat under a Bodhi tree (Ficus religiosa) for 49 days and meditated, ultimately achieving enlightenment.

After renouncing his royal life and leaving his family, Siddhartha Gautama became a wandering ascetic, seeking enlightenment to end suffering. He practiced extreme asceticism, but eventually realized that this path was not leading to his goal. He decided to adopt a more moderate approach, sitting under a Bodhi tree to meditate and focus on his mind.

As he sat there, he was tempted by the demon Mara (representing desire and ignorance) and various other distractions, but he remained steadfast and focused on his meditation. Finally, after 49 days of intense mental struggle, Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment (Siddhi) under the Bodhi tree. This marked the beginning of his journey as the Buddha, the "Awakened One."

Uruvela Forest has become a sacred site for Buddhists, who come to pay homage to the Buddha's enlightenment and seek spiritual guidance. The site has undergone significant renovations over the centuries, including the construction of temples and shrines. Today, it is considered one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Buddhism.

In recognition of its significance, UNESCO declared Bodh Gaya (including Uruvela Forest) a World Heritage Site in 2002. The site is also home to several Buddhist monasteries and temples, attracting thousands of pilgrims and tourists every year inspiring spiritual growth and contemplation.
